Chartered in 1958
Baptist Hospital Credit Union was chartered in April 1958 with only nine members
and assets of $45.00. These nine chartered members each had a vision of forming
a cooperative financial institution, which would allow employees of Baptist Hospital
a convenient place to save and borrow money. All office functions of the credit union
were initially performed by volunteers. As the credit union grew and progressed,
staff was hired to perform the day to day functions.
Serving Nearly 4,000, Over 20 Million in Assets
The credit union now serves nearly 4,000 members and membership privileges are extended
to physicians, their office staff, groups of less than 3000 employees within a 25
mile radius desiring credit union services, groups who have a contractual
relationship providing services to the Saint Thomas Health Services system and its affiliates,
and immediate family members of those eligible for credit union membership.
Financial services have been extended to service the needs of the membership.
The credit union offers a variety of savings and loan products. Checking accounts
were added in the early 80's to meet the needs of those who needed a low cost means
to pay their bills. Convenience, today, is now defined by technology. Through the
use of ATM, Audio Response, Home Banking, FAX machines, our toll free telephone number, and overnight
mail, service can be provided very quickly at no or low cost to the members.
The credit union's assets are now over 20 million due to the added services combined
with the number of members we serve. The credit union employs a full-time staff to meet the needs of the members. The credit union's success and direction
is provided by seven Board of Directors and five Supervisory Committee members. See our Office page.
Our Daily Mission
The future can best be described by our daily mission which is to operate a sound
financial cooperative for members and to provide quality, personal service that
meets or exceeds member needs. Our goal is to develop and promote competitively-priced
financial services, and deliver those services in a professional, convenient, efficient,
and cost-effective manner.
